Four Richmond City schools — including Linwood Holton Elementary in North Richmond — have been recognized as ‘Title I Distinguished Schools’ by the state Department of Education.

The awards recognize schools that have maintained full state accreditation under the Standards of Learning for two consecutive years, met No Child Left Behind benchmarks in reading and math, and scored above the 60th percentile in both subjects.

“Obviously, the credit for this accomplishment goes to the outstanding teachers and administrators at these four schools,“ said Richmond School Superintendent Dr. Deborah Jewell-Sherman. “But it also reflects well on the students and families who attend these schools and their dedication and desire to learn. Truly, I am not surprised by this accomplishment. I am pleased and proud, but not surprised.”
