Sophomore guard Charles Jenkins scored a game high 27 points and dished out nine assists to lead fifth-seeded  Hofstra to a 79-66 victory over 12th seed UNC Wilmington in game two of the CAA tournament’s opening round. Hofstra (21-10) will meet fourth seed Old Dominion Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

Jenkins, a first team All-CAA selection, scored 20 second-half points for the Pride who led 39-29 at halftime.  Sophomore forward Greg Washington came off the bench to post a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Also in double figures were Cornelius Vines with13 points and Nathaniel Lester added 10 points.

UNC Wilmington (7-25) was led by junior guard Johnny Wolf with 22 points, followed by Montez Downey with 14 and Chad Tomko with 10. Tomko led UNCW with six rebounds.

The Seahawks got within six points, 41-35, with 17:28 left in the game after two free throws by Dominique Lacy. But the Pride rallied with two baskets from Jenkins to push the lead back to 10 at 45-35 with 16:11 remaining. Hofstra extended the advantage to as many as 17 (62-45) with 8:47 left, and 65-48 with 6:59 to go.

Hofstra shot 52.7 percent (29-55) from the floor, while UNCW shot only 31.6% (18-57). Both teams hit seven treys each. Johnny Wolf led UNCW with three as did Hofstra’s Cornelius Vines.

Hofstra dominated the boards, 43-30.
