Make plans now to celebrate the new Cannon Creek Greenway Project on National Night Out, Tuesday, August 5:

The Green Park Civic Association, the Highland View Civic Association, Councilpersons Robertson and Hilbert, the Sierra Club, Richmond Parks and Recreation, SMBW Architects, Grayland Baptist Church, RRHA and the RPD are all partnering on the new Cannon Creek Greenway Project at Richmond Henrico Turnpike. To kickoff the new park project, and to celebrate National Night Out event on Tues. Aug. 5th, we’re hosting an old-fashioned cookout at the Richmond/Henrico Turnpike cookout site (the site of the new green way) at Dove Street and Richmond/Henrico Turnpike. The event is totally free, and is from 5:00 until 8:30pm. All North Side residents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The menu includes burgers and hot-dogs, salad, baked beans, non-alcoholic beverages and ice cream. For fun, there will be old-fashioned “field day” type games and events for kids and parents, game prizes, door prizes, a bicycle decorating contest and parade, and musical entertainment. Parents and kids are encouraged to bring their bikes, and members of the Richmond Bicycle Club will be there to do free bicycle tune-ups and maintenance. Parking is available at the Dove St. Armory between 1st Avenue and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. Rain or shine – rain location is Overby Sheppard Elementary School on 1st Avenue.
