Henrico Animal Control: Skunk tests positive for rabies in Glen Allen

Two dogs who were exposed to the animal are being quarantined and expected to be okay.

From the Henrico Police Animal Control division:

On Monday, October 19, 2015, at approximately 6:00 PM, Henrico Police Animal Protection received a call for a deceased skunk in the back yard of a home in the 10800 Block of Sheppards Way Drive.  When officer arrived they discovered the remains of a skunk that was located in a fenced in backyard along with the homeowner’s two dogs. The skunk was submitted to the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services for rabies testing.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, positive test results were received from the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services.  The dogs involved in this incident had current rabies vaccinations.  The dogs have received booster shots and will be quarantined at their owner’s home.  There have been no reports of any additional human or animal exposure.  This is the eleventh confirmed positive rabies case in Henrico County for 2015.
