Kory posted earlier this week about Henrico County Schools using an alert system for parents. That service is also available to the general public.
Basically, if there is a local emergency, Henrico will send you an email or a text message letting you know and telling you what you should do next. You can enter 2 cell phones (or Blackberry devices) and 2 email addresses per account. If you live or work in Henrico County this is a valuable service. You can even tell the Alert system where you live and work, so they know specifically what alerts will affect you. Even if you live on the city side of the Near West End, it would be worthwhile to register since the City of Richmond doesn’t yet offer this service.
