Hark! My Tree Is Bare and Sad!

I am in love with Christmas. It tastes good, smells good, looks good, and no matter how jaded I get I still succumb to that feeling of excitement, like Santa is DEFINITELY going to give me that NES I’ve been begging for for 20 years…2007 is my year! Some folks say, “It is such a […]

I am in love with Christmas. It tastes good, smells good, looks good, and no matter how jaded I get I still succumb to that feeling of excitement, like Santa is DEFINITELY going to give me that NES I’ve been begging for for 20 years…2007 is my year!

Some folks say, “It is such a shame when Christmas decorations go up in stores right after Halloween!” Not me. If I had my way, they’d go up in June. I don’t care. I love it. Last year my future husband and I got it together and bought a tree, but what nobody reminded us was, trees aren’t nearly as fun without ornaments, and when you’re just starting out, you don’t have the advantage of a lifetime’s worth of ornaments lying around in a carefully marked box.

My mom had given me some through the years, but when you’re in college, you are like, “Sigh, thanks Mom, FOR NOTHING.” How I’d like to go back and shake 20 year old me by the lapels, because I have no idea where any of those suddenly invaluable trinkets are. So if you’re like me and you’re starting your Christmas from scratch, you might be interested in the vast selection of reasonably-priced adorable ornaments and decorations that Urban Outfitters (?!) is currently offering. They keep putting these things on sale, so check back often.

And if you’ve got some time on your hands, you should check out Etsy.com’s ornament selection. For those of you not addicted to shopping online, Etsy is a site upon which crafty people can sell their crafty wares while eliminating the middle man. It takes a little commitment to delve into their overwhelming selection of stuff, but once you find a seller whose taste you like, you can look at the sellers they like, and the sellers THEY like, and so on until you’ve got a nice little cadre of favorites to stalk whenever they post something new.

Got any more good sites (or good local stores) whose ornaments you’d like to recommend? Comment, please. I am trying to build memories, here.
