WHAT DOES YOUR START-UP BUSINESS DO?

Hair of the Dog is Richmond’s first indoor dog park whose mission is not only to provide a fun environment for your dog, but also an enjoyable, relaxed, and comfortable environment for dog lovers and dog owners alike. The temperature controlled environment provides a warm play area on those cold winter days and AC on hot summer ones. And on those perfect Richmond days, floor-to-ceiling windows will open up to feel like the outdoors. A cushioned and cleanable play area allows dogs to play without getting dirty. Customers can enjoy craft beers on tap and specialty drinks so you can relax and leave the supervising of your dog to us! Our goal is to create a community of dog lovers to come and have a great time with their dogs.

HOW DID YOUR VENTURE START?

The idea came about this past winter, one of the most annoying winters I think RVA has experienced in a while. My puppy has a lot of energy to run off and not a lot of space to do it. Outdoor dog parks are great when the weather is nice and has been nice for a while, but I found myself freezing while my dog rolled around in a bunch of dirt and mud. The two things that would make it better was a more temperate environment or a beer. Then I thought to myself, why not have both? I think a town that loves their dogs as much as Richmond does deserves an indoor dog park while enjoying a beverage.

HOW WILL YOU USE THE $10,000 CASH PRIZE TO HELP YOUR START-UP?

The money will be used to help find the perfect place to house Hair of the Dog, and have some local design engineers come in to make this dream a reality. It will take some funding to get the place up to code.
