Former State Senate candidate Carl Loser arrested for assault on Henrico officer

The Powhatan resident was stopped in Western Henrico for speeding and allegedly assaulted an officer.

A former candidate in the Virginia State Senate race last fall has been arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting a Henrico County police officer.

Libertarian candidate Carl Loser of Powhatan, 25, was driving down Lauderdale Drive near Carver Elementary School on New Year’s Day when he was stopped by an officer for speeding around 9:45 PM.

According to Lt. Christopher Eley of Henrico Police, the officer was attempting to explain and issue the summons for speeding, which Loser debated. Authorities say he then rolled up his window before signing the summons, closing it on the officer’s hand. Loser was taken into custody and charged with assault on law enforcement.

The offense would make Loser, if convicted, a felon.
