Cameron Foundation-sponsored Focus INC workshops offered in July are as follows:
Thursday, July 10th – Strategic Planning: Phase I
Wednesday, July 16th – Selling Ideas: The Art of Influence and Negotiation
Monday, July 21st – Program Evaluation 101: To Prove or Improve Something
Thursday, July 31st – Nonprofit Retirement Plans

Thursday, July 10th – Strategic Planning: Phase I at the Hopewell Public Library, 209 East Cawson Street, 23860, 5pm-8pm, with Gail Merridew.

Funders and others tell you that having a strategic plan is important; but, how do you get started and what level of detail do you need? This session, the first in a three-part series, discusses the strategic
planning process in general; how many meetings to have; the strategic planning horizon; the importance of mission, vision, and value statements; and the benefits/drawbacks of professional facilitation. Board and senior staff members will all benefit from this session. $20 per person includes light refreshments.

Wednesday, July 16th – Selling Ideas: The Art of Influence and Negotiation at Harrowgate Elementary School, Parent/Community Trailer, 15501 Harrowgate Road, Chester, 23831, 9am-12pm, with Larry Kachelries.

There is a continuum of communication in business that includes influencing, persuading, selling, negotiating, mediating, and resolving conflict. All of these components involve more than just transferring information – they require you to control an outcome by what and how you
communicate. This session will benefit anyone involved with business dealings, fundraising, community outreach, media interactions, or staff-board relationships. $20 per person.

Monday, July 21st – Program Evaluation 101: To Prove or Improve Something at The Cameron Foundation, 24 West Old Street, Petersburg, 23803, from 1pm-4pm with Barbie Dunn.

This workshop provides an overview of evaluation’s role in building organizational capacity. It
describes the difference between evaluation for accountability (prove something) and evaluation for learning (improve something). The emphasis will be on learning processes that are practical and useful for both board and staff members. $20 per person.

Thursday, July 31st – Nonprofit Retirement Plans at Harrowgate Elementary School, Parent/Community Trailer, 15501 Harrowgate Road, Chester, 23831, 9am-12pm, with Randy Howard.

Nonprofit retirement plans, commonly referred to as 403b plans, have received little attention or
oversight by any regulatory body until recent years. Many nonprofit board members do not recognize their fiduciary role for plan oversight, including the approval of investment choices, the competitive selection of providers, and the monitoring of fees. Designed for board and senior
staff members. FREE!

For planning purposes, pre-registration is strongly encouraged; however, walk-in registrants are welcome. To read course descriptions or to obtain registration forms, please go to The Cameron Foundation’s website, www.thecameronfoundation.org (under Nonprofit Resources / Focus
