The Filipino Americans Coming Together at Virginia CommUniversity would like to invite you to its 17th annual Culture Night at Binford Middle School on April 21, 2012.
This year FACT@VCU presents to you Anito: The Divine Instruments!
Anito: The Divine Instruments is a story that revolves around the life of an “abnormal’ teen, Manuel. Manuel is not normal in the sense that his life is burdened by superstitions. Unwilling to let anyoonwealth ne be apart of his life, he is driven only by his constant family superstition rituals that will keep his family safe.
Manuel’s family is cursed with the ability to see creatures that normally only exist in stories told by the Filipino elders. And as the day goes by, Manuel continues to play the Bungkaka, a mystical instrument that is said to drive away evil spirits. When he finally gets a shot at having his first friendship with Mira, a strong willed girl, he unwillingly crosses path wit the dark spirit that the Bungkaka once had driven away from the world.
Through the story of Manuel, FACT would like to show case the talents in our community and at the same time keep our culture and traditions alive for generations to come.
Again, the event will be held at Binford Middle School on April 21, 2012 at 6:30pm.
Come out, bring your friends and family, and enjoy FACT’s biggest and most anticipated cultural event of the year!
