“Eurydice” opened at the Firehouse Theatre on Thursday and gets a rave review from Susan Haubenstock writing for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The 2003 play by Sarah Ruhl, who has since won a MacArthur Foundation “genius grant,” is a lovely, dreamlike rendering of the Orpheus myth. And director Rusty Wilson’s production matches the passion and whimsy of Ruhl’s work.

As in the myth, Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love and get married, and Eurydice dies. Orpheus goes to the underworld to retrieve her, playing music to persuade the gods to let her go.
