Elkhardt Middle School and Thompson Middle School to combine

The move won’t happen until next September.

From RTD:

On a 9-0 vote, the board approved an administration recommendation to transfer the Elkhardt operation from its closed building on Hull Street Road to Thompson, on Forest Hill Avenue, and to merge the two schools into one new school.

The move, which takes effect in September, will decrease the number of middle schools in Richmond from eight to seven and increase middle school utilization from 71 percent to 79 percent.

Approximately 500 new students will be attending Thompson. A side effect of the merger is that this combined school is a “new school” and therefore doesn’t count toward or against the district’s academics stats. That’s some serious The Wire-level numbers gaming!
