Eco-conscious jeweler opens store at Short Pump Town Center

Alex and Ani offers a different approach to jewelry, sourcing many of its materials from scrap yards and vintage jewelry dealers.

A new-to-Richmond jeweler is entering a crowded market with a different approach. Alex and Ani, a Rhode-Island based retailer, recently opened a 1,400-square-foot store at Short Pump Town Center, in the space formerly occupied by Littman Jewelers.

Founded in 2004 by Carolyn Rafaelian, the company aims to be eco-friendly, creating many of their pieces from recycled scrap metal and vintage jewelry components. Each piece the company carries is designed by Rafaelian and all products are made in America.

Alex and Ani also partners with approximately 40 charities worldwide, to which it gives a portion of sales from its 50 retail locations.

Elsewhere in Virginia, the company has stores in Fairfax and Charlottesville. Its products are carried through a number of other retail partners as well.

The store is located in the P section of Short Pump Town Center, near Nordstrom, and is open Monday – Saturday from 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
