Early morning police pursuit ends in crash on Forest Avenue

21-year-old Edward Patlan eluded police and later crashed into a tree after exiting Interstate 64.

Virginia State Police were led on a high speed chase this morning after attempting to pull a driver over for speeding.

Just before 2:00 AM Wednesday morning, a State Trooper attempted to pull over a Nissan 280 at mile marker 185 (near Dickens Road) for speeding. The trooper’s radar indicated the vehicle was traveling 84 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Edward Patlan of Richmond, then sped away to flee from police, exiting onto Glenside Drive. He then made a turn onto Forest Avenue before running off the road and striking a tree.

Both Patlan and a passenger, 20-year-old Mitchell Lindsey of Henrico, were taken into custody without incident, according to police. Patlan sustained minor injuries and was transported to VCU Medical Center.

Patlan was charged with eluding police, a felony. Lindsey was taken into custody on outstanding warrants in Goochland County. He was also charged with drug possession.

The pair remain in Henrico County Jail.
