From a CBS 6 report:

“I’ve been working here for over 20 years, and to see something like this is terrible.  It’s terrible, ” said William Johnson.

Long time employee William Johnson tells CBS 6, the owner has a zero drug policy in the shop.  But admits there’s problems in the neighborhood.

“We are clean free and drug free.  And we just come to work to work,” said Johnson.  “It’s bad for business.”

Detectives on Friday told Jones that the raid resulted after a two-month investigation that was prompted by tips and complaints from the community. If you catch the bus, work near, or walk the stretch of Broad Street between 1st and 3rd streets, this news is unlikely to surprise you.

Huh. I never called the cops about those specific businesses, but everybody knows people openly sell drugs on those blocks. Count me as not surprised.

This is fantasic news. Clean up these crappy areas and let the progress continue on Broad st. Hopefully this cuts down on the sketchy crowds hanging around on the street producing litter and damaging the areas reputation.

Next stop: corner of Meadow and Cary St.

Throw more people in jail!! The whole lot of them!

This is great news. RPD — keep it up. This few blocks remains the worst part of Broad between Belvidere and 3rd St. Finish the job by getting these dealers off the street.

Mike Jasp… the corner of Meadow and (s)Cary St is indeed super sketchy. It’s like a microcosm of that show The Wire. Who knows what’s going on in the gas station parking lot.

Elliott – yes Cary and Meadow is bad and like the Broad St situation, there is actually a fair amount of new development around this corner…not to mention the Fan just two blocks away. It amazes me the lifeblood of this corners criminal element has been allowed to pump for so long. I would think whoever is on the hook for the new development right on the corner would be real noisy about busting up this mess.

DJ Fish market is on the corner and that parking lot always has folks hanging around day in day out as if they are waiting on a bus that never comes. A Fish Market….is this a coincidence?

    re: Cary and Meadow

It’s a shame there isn’t a police station nearby to handle this problem. Like say, 2 blocks directly south of there.

The Cary and Meadow intersection is way better than it used to be a while back when people were getting shot and killed in that gas station parking lot. There also used to be a fair amount of prostitution in the area. I wouldn’t even consider it that sketchy nowadays.

When I was a kid, we’d ride our bikes into that gas station on Meadow & Cary to get soft drinks and put air in our tires. When I was a little older, I’d buy cheap gas at the station. We all know who is responsible for turning this area (and others) into dangerous crime-ridden cesspools. Yes, we all know…

  10. That fish market has delicious lake trout sandwiches.
