Dixie Donuts bids adieu to Innsbrook location, focuses efforts on Carytown shop

Dixie Donuts, which took over the former Daylight Donuts to expand to the West End, is packing it up and focusing on its original location.

As first reported by Style Weekly last week, Dixie Donuts closed their West End location this past Saturday, November 1st.

The shop, whose original location is in Carytown, took over the former Daylight Donuts location on West Broad Street near Innsbrook, rebranding as Dixie shortly thereafter.

Co-owner Betsey Harrell Thomas told Style’s Brandon Fox the decision to close was based on the uncertainty surrounding food trends–a concern shared among many owners of donut, cupcake, and froyo shops, to name a few.

“The original Daylight lease is up for renewal, and we either sign on for another five years or we get out now,” says Thomas. “Will gourmet donuts still be big in five years? Who knows? We sincerely wish the best of luck to those who want to find out.”

Meanwhile, cross-town rival Sugar Shack has no plans of slowing down anytime soon, with a number of new stores–including one in the Near West End–in the works.

The Carytown Dixie donuts location will continue to operate as usual.
