WRIC provides a bit more insight into the shooting death that took place earlier today just north of the intersection of Chamberlayne Avenue and Brookland Park Boulevard:

Richmond Police are investigating a bizarre string of incidents Tuesday morning that led to the city’s 49th homicide of the year.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting call in the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue around 7:28 a.m. Tuesday. The victim, 22-year-old Thurston Melton was found shot. He later died at the hospital.

An investigation revealed Melton and another man were suspects in a robbery of an individual that occurred just prior to the shooting.

Police said after the robbery, Melton and the other robbery suspect became involved in an altercation unrelated to the robbery. That’s when Melton was shot, according to Police.

Melton’s alleged accomplice in the earlier robbery was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
