Centre Hill Museum will hold its annual holiday open house on Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum will offer free admission and self guided tours on both days. Celebrating Childhood is the theme of this year’s open house. Children accompanied by adults are especially welcome. Six to eleven year olds will receive an educational guidebook and will have the opportunity to complete activities related to the history of the house. At 3 p.m. on each day, Limelight Talent will perform the children’s classic The Velveteen Rabbit. An exhibition of children’s clothing from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries will also be on view. Many of the period rooms will feature seasonal decorations. Refreshments will be served. The museum’s gift shop is stocked with many holiday gifts including books on local history, ornaments, and educational items for children.

Built in 1823 by Revolutionary War veteran Robert Bolling IV, Centre Hill remained a private home until 1936. The house features three examples of American architectural styles, Federal, Greek revival, and Colonial revival. The home was the site of two presidential visits, Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and William H. Taft in 1909. Today, Centre Hill is a historic house museum owned and operated by the City of Petersburg. The museum is located at 1 Centre Hill Ave. in Petersburg. For more information call (804) 733-2401.
