Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month by stepping back in time and going to a Harlem Rent Party. Rent Parties were a way for Harlemites in the 1920s and 1930s to pay their rent: hosts would hire musicians, cook food and with the proceeds have money to cover their rent. Come on out to Muse Creative Workspace (6N 19th Street) on Friday, April 17 at 8PM at for an evening of jazz, salsa lessons and more!
The JCA, Jazz Composers Alliance, Inc invites you to participate in this tradition of Jazz and at the same time support the JAZZ MENTORS PROJECT. The JAZZ MENTORS PROJECT provides jazz education, mentorship, and instruments for aspiring young musicians in Richmond, ages 8 to 18. All proceeds from the Rent Party go directly to this project.
