In a steady Sunday afternoon drizzle — which included a 40-minute rail-delay — the Richmond Braves outlasted the Norfolk Tides at The Diamond, winning by a score of 8-4.
The home team’s offense was paced by designated hitter/cleanup hitter Barbaro Canizares, who went 2-for-3, with four runs-batted-in.
Canizares, 28, was signed by the Braves organization in February of 2006, after he defected from Cuba on his fourth attempt. In 2004 he was banned from baseball in Cuba for one season after his arrest stemming from his third attempt.
Today is an off-day for the R-Braves (24-19).
