Bon Secours to launch Class-A-Roll, a “mobile learning kitchen”

The new project aims to improve nutrition, health and wellness in the East End community.

As part of their Healthy Communities Initiative, Bon Secours will be launching Class-A-Roll, a”mobile learning kitchen” at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center on May 12 at 11:00 AM.

But what exactly is a “mobile learning kitchen”?

According to the media advisory:

Class-A-Roll is a fully equipped, 20-foot mobile learning kitchen designed to teach children and parents cooking skills and nutrition. Commissioned by Bon Secours Virginia, Class-A-Roll supports the health system’s Healthy Communities Initiative in underserved neighborhoods across Richmond, particularly those in Church Hill and the East End. Class-A-Roll will reach residents in area neighborhoods through participation in community events and partnerships with local community organizations.

Local leaders, including Dorothy McAuliffe, the First Lady of Virginia, and 7th District Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille will be on hand for the event. They will be joined by seventy elementary school students from neighborhoods in Richmond’s East End.

Leadership from Bon Secours, including Senior Vice President for Sponsorship Sister Anne Marie Mack, C.B.S., and Senior Vice President of Mission Services David Belde, Ph.D., will also be in attendance.

The event will include an unveiling ceremony and tours of Class-A-Roll, as well as opportunities to learn about gardening, healthy food prep and cooking.

Class-A-Roll is the newest addition to Bon Secours’ Healthy Communities Initiative. According to the Initiative’s webpage:

A healthy community is achieved through improved and coordinated use of existing and new assets with the most important asset being the people who live and work in the community.
