The most recent newsletter from Richmond’s Better Housing Coalition outlines the organization’s vision to transform the Lincoln Manor apartment complex in North Richmond. Lincoln Manor is located on North Avenue near Laburnum Avenue.

BHC plans to transform the Lincoln Manor apartment complex into a safe and attractive community after purchasing the VHDA-foreclosed property later this year. To alleviate overcrowding, an entire 20-unit building near the center of the property will be demolished and replaced with a green park and new amenity space. Each of the three remaining 20-unit buildings will be reconfigured to include 13-15 apartments of various sizes, while 16 units in four separate buildings will be demonlished to create additional green space at the front and rear of the property.

In the end, the total number of units will be reduced from 300 to 243. We will incorporate our signature features by meeting EarthCraft green building standards, delivering educational and recreational programs coordinated on-site by BHC’s Community Social Work Program, and creating a welcoming environment through rich landscaping. The first phase – rehabilitation of 115 units – is currently underway, and the second phase will commence next year.
