Richmond Virginia’s First Baptist Church will be hosting a community basketball league this winter and is inviting children in the community to participate.

The basketball league will be run through Upward Basketball, a program designed to promote salvation, character and sportsmanship to all who participate. Registration for this community-wide basketball league for first through sixth grade children has begun and extends through Nov. 13. Registration forms are available at the First Baptist Church office, which is located at 2709 Monument Avenue, or by clicking here.

The early registration fee will be $75, after Oct. 26 it will increase to $85. The registration fee includes a reversible mesh jersey and shorts, T-shirt, individual awards after each practice and game, an end of the year award, and more.

There are separate leagues for boys and girls, one hour weekly practices, and one hour games on Saturday throughout the eight-week season. Children are guaranteed equal playing time and equal teams. To ensure the teams are balanced, participants are individually evaluated and placed on teams according to their skill level.

The evaluation process begins Mon. Nov. 10, at 6:00 pm. Evaluations will be held in the First Baptist Church gymnasium. The first practices will begin the week of Jan. 5, 2009.

The first week of games will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17. Parents interested in learning more about the league are invited to call Buddy Burgess at (804) 358-2977 or Robin Hendricks (804) 358-5458 ext. 112 for more information, or click here.
