Bacon candy! Never one to back away from an OMG recipe in all caps, I gave it a whirl. The results were spectacular. Honestly though, could you expect anything less than spectacular? It is bacon imbued with sugars and spices. The texture is a bit weird: kind of like bacon laffy taffy, which sounds gross, but isn’t too bad.

Make sure you cook it long enough though, you want to crisp it up as much as possible. I decided to roll it up into a sweet looking bacon package and take it to a nerdy Halo3 party — where it was well received.

BACON CANDY for everyone!

  1. damn bacon candy is damn good!

  2. I first heard about sprinkling sugar on bacon many, many moons ago while watching an old episode of Gomer Pyle. Gomer had made breakfast for Sarge and Sarge started raving about bacon which set Gomer off on a long spiel about about his mamma (or nana) use to sprinkle sugar on bacon. I tried it a few times and loved it! Unfortunately, not everyone in the family was too thrilled with this early form of bacon candy. I bet they would like this version those.

    We love the pig!

  3. I had something similar at a party once where the bacon was tied in knots before they sprinkled it with sugar and cooked it up. It was to die for–and I eyed my hosts’ substantial girth and worried that their days were numbered if this was their idea an appetizer.

Now that I’ve discovered Vosges’ Mo’s Bacon Bar (http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/product/bacon_exotic_candy_bar/exotic_candy_bars), CHOCOLATE with bacon, I wonder what I was so worried about, and, even more importantly, why I didn’t think of it first.
