5 Things for Teens: Women’s show, baseball, festivals, fashion, and cleaning up an awesome park

The weekend is almost here! And if you listen closely enough you can hear summer just a few months away, very subtly creeping up on us. Creep on up, summer.

1. Southern Women’s Show

Shout out to all the moms and mother figures. You rock! I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you guys. Literally. The Southern Women’s show is a festival dedicated to those who are strong, independent, and brilliant women. It is also here for your grandmother, who just wants to hang out and loves buying handmade anything.

  • Saturday, April 16th • 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Avenue
  • $5-$10

2. Mozart Festival 20016

If I didn’t have a practice AP test on Saturday then I would totally go to this. This could be one of the best festivals to happen in Jackson Ward. So If I were you, I would take advantage of this.

  • Saturday, April 16th • 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Jackson Ward, various locations
  • Mostly free (Except the burlesque show @ Gallery 5)

3. Chimborazo Park Clean Up

Chimborazo Park was a huge part of my childhood growing up. Sometimes on the weekends my dad would drive to the park and wax his car as my brother and I would attempt to play catch with our football. Chimborazo is still a go-to park for many residents of Church Hill and it just needs a little TLC and TLC [1^] this weekend.

  • Saturday, April 16th • 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Chimborazo Park, 3200 E Broad Street
  • Free

4. Flying Squirrels v. Altoona

The Flying Squirrels are playing this weekend, and even if you don’t like baseball, the Diamond makes some pretty good funnel cakes. And if it’s a slow game, I recommend making it your sole effort to catch a loose ball and eat snacks. Also, we can’t forget Nutzy the Squirrel. Shout out to the guy or girl who is Nutzy–I applaud your efforts because it probably gets really hot in that suit.

  • Sunday, April 17th • 12:05 – 2:30 PM
  • The Diamond, 3001 N Boulevard
  • $8-12

5. RVA Fashion Week

Fashion, fashion, fashion. The fashion scene in RVA is “forever evolving” in the words of a fellow comrade of mine, and I would agree. The annual VMFA Fashion Show has, surprisingly, made its way into my life year after year. Whether one of my brother’s friends is a part of it, or one of my friends is a part of it, or somehow my cousin’s homie is apart of it. I don’t know. But what I do know is that I have never been disappointed whether I’m hearing about it or watching the event. This is an event that you don’t want to miss. It’s a pretty big deal.

  • Monday, April 18th – 24th • 6:00 – 9:00 PM
  • Networking Social @ District 5, 1911 W Main Street.
