Weekend art opening explores personal identity through various mediums

The opening at The Highpoint Gallery will explore the topic through paintings, video, and live music.

A group of artists is coming together in Scott’s Addition this weekend showcase works spanning several different mediums, with one central topic–personal identity.

In a retrospective art opening featuring her work, local artist Allison Jones reflects on her deeply personal experience as an outsider looking in on transgender society and relates it to her own issues with identity, and centralizes around the idea that while we’re all different, we share a lot of the same struggles.

Jones has had numerous previous exhibits featuring her psychologically-fraught artwork.

Attendees will be treated to a biographical film, a short discussion on the themes of the show, live music, and more. The suggested donation is $10 at the door, and all proceeds will go to the artists who collaborated to make the event possible.

The event will feature the videography of Riley Arthur, Thomas Sheehy, and Jacyln Cummings; with music by Aaron Stallings of the Cyrenaics; and information on a book by Natalie Colleen Gates.

The opening takes place at The Highpoint Gallery, located at 3300 West Broad Street, on Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th, from 5:00-9:00 PM.
