Virginia Revisited
What do you do when, as an avid art collector, you run out of wall space? Put in more walls? Hang ‘em from the ceilings? If you’re of like mind with native New Yorker, Craig McElroy, you give them a brand new viewing and an opportunity to find new homes.

McElroy, who fell in love with Richmond’s vibrant art scene upon coming to Richmond for college, has been collecting works in oil, acrylic, colored pencil, and water color ever since. He has paired with the Glave Kocen and Eric Schindler galleries to present some of the highlights of his personal collection, as well as some selections from other private collections.
Of his artistic experience in Virginia, McElroy said, “I’m very passionate about collecting art from the Richmond area, which I’ve been doing for a long time and will continue to do. In my opinion Virginia, which has been a second home to me ever since my college days, has some of the finest artists around today.”
“Virginia Revisited” allows patrons to buy art from well-known local artists who may not be currently showing anywhere else for a very reasonable price. At least 14 artists are represented, including Gordon Neal, Laura Loe, Richard Garrison, and Parks Duffey to name a few.
The show, which opened last Friday, is taking place at the Gay Community Center of Richmond’s gallery. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Diversity Thrift. The show will be up throughout the month of April.
