VIDEO: Kings Dominion’s new thrill ride Delirium lives up to its name

Ride along with us for a sneak-peek at the 115-foot spinning pendulum ride in the park’s Candy Apple Grove section.

Kings Dominion is set to debut a new thrill ride to theme park-goers this Friday, and we got a chance to give it a whirl just before the public. Suffice to say, the ride lives up to its name.

Delirium, as the ride is known, is a powerful, spinning pendulum on which 40 riders are strapped into their seats, facing outward on a giant ring. As their feet dangle, they begin slowly swinging back and forth while the ring starts to rotate. The ride quickly gains momentum and before they know it, riders are getting swirling views of the park. The ride soars to a height of 115 feet.

You can liken Delirium to a more intense Berserker (that’s the swinging boat ride towards the front of the park if you’re not familiar), except Delirium stops just short of making a full rotation upside down-reaching a maximum arc angle of 120 degrees. The outward facing seats on the rotating ring give riders a unique experience and views of the park. Each time you’re swung upwards over the course of the 90 second ride, you’ll get a whole new point of view, as you’ll see in my on-ride video below. It’s an intense but fun ride to be sure.

The ride was constructed on the site of stand-up roller coaster Shockwave, which was dismantled last fall, in the Candy Apple Grove section of the park.

Kings Dominion-and Delirium-both open to the public on Friday, March 25th.
