VHS offers sweet new class on the history of candy

Explore sweets from the very first varieties through the mid 1900s with this class July 28th.

From the Virginia Historical Society:

Join us on Thursday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. for something truly delicious. Susan Benjamin will lead a class, “From the First Candy to Retro Treats,” and take us through the history of candy, beginning with the very first sweets to favorites from the mid-1900s. (YES, there will be samples.)

Specific topics will include:

  • How the American love of candy began
  • Native American foods
  • The role Virginia played in creating the candy we eat today
  • The use of candy as medicine and during wars

Tickets are $25/VHS members and $30/nonmembers. Register by Thursday, July 21.

Class participants should enter the VHS using the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Learning Center.
