VCU Southern Film Festival starts today

Sports films with a southern connection.

VCU Southern Film Festival is a four year old festival to “explore how the distinctiveness of the South has been portrayed onscreen, the Southern Film Festival brings together films and those involved in their making with constructive commentary”.

This year the theme is sports and kicks off today on the VCU campus. Full schedule below, events are free except where noted.

Friday February 7

  • 3 PM Remember the Titans – VCU Campus, Academic Learning Commons, 1000 Floyd Avenue, Room 1107
  • 6:30-9 PM Secretariat – VMFA Leslie Cheek Theater – $8 general admission/$5 VMFA members; free for VCU faculty, staff, and students

Saturday February 8

  • 10 AM Tennis Shorts – Grace Street Theater
  • 12 PM Mickey: A Family Story – Virginia Historical Society Robins Family Forum (Part of a bigger baseball memorabilia event.)
  • 4 PM Greased Lightning – Grace Street Theater
  • 7 PM Whip It! (2009) – Grace Street Theater
