Time to get Riverrockin’: Mud, tunes, and artistry

Riverrock is about moving around in the outdoors and listening to music, but also a bunch of other stuff!

Yes, you’re under a golden film of pollen misery right now, despite the breathtaking spring scenery. But as April gives into May, you’ll soon break free from your powdery bonds and enjoy the glory of Dominion Riverrock–the annual festival that celebrates the outdoors and music. Two things that many, many Virginians enjoy!

Dominion has released its schedule for 2015’s Riverrock on May 15th – 17th, which, as can be expected, promotes RVA’s unique riverfront landscape. What with our urban rapids and such, we’re pretty much a diamond in the rough, am I right?

You’ll have your sporty stuff, like your jumping dogs, your bouldering, your SUP, and of course, your muddy, athletic 10K.

And, naturally, a plethora of music.

But one of the neatest things that Riverrock does (particularly for those of us who are less than sporty) is incorporate art and film that involves the out-of-doors.

These land mostly outside the festival–that is, the films will be screened during the couple of days leading up to it.

Free screening of Nolan’s 14

The “Mount Everest” of ultramarathoning, Nolan’s 14 hits 14 separate 14,000-foot peaks, and it simply cannot be completed by any but the most athletic. Ben Clark presents his documentary.

5Point Film Festival – “On the Road”

This film festival focuses on five main principles that they feel a film about the outdoor industry should embody: respect, commitment, humility, purpose, and balance. In their words, it’s not films that are simply about “hucking yourself off a cliff.’ They’ll present 12 – 14 documentary shorts.
