This week’s local theater openings

A military thriller and a heartwarming barbershop story.

The Human Terrain

In this compelling military thriller, Mabry Hoffman, an anthropologist with The Human Terrain System, a real military initiative that embeds social scientists with combat units in Iraq and Afghanistan, is caught in the middle of an ethical dilemma as she tries to help a new friend. Blackmer’s two-act work is a taut, tense treatise that looks at the conflict that results when a civilian thrust into a combat situation must decide where her loyalties truly lie. Can her ‘gray’ world fit into a black and white war zone that can quickly desensitize human emotions or elevate them to their highest level?

Lots of silliness and a heartwarming story for the whole family: our hero, Danny Boy, found his million dollar baby (sweet Adeline), at the five-and-ten-cent store — you get the picture! Classic barbershop harmonies are sung in a classic barbershop setting as this original musical unfolds on The Mill Stage. Written by The Mill’s own Tom Width and Paul Deiss.
