RVA singles going on the auction block this Saturday

Over 20 single men and women from around town will be up for auction to help fund Richmond CenterStage.

Several of RVA’s most eligible singles will be auctioned off this Saturday at the second annual Single in the City bachelor and bachelorette auction at the Carpenter Theatre, with proceeds benefitting the artistic and educational programs of Richmond CenterStage.

The event is organized by bravo! Young Professionals for CenterStage, an organization that fosters educational outreach between CenterStage and the community. Tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door), and VIP admission is $60 in advance ($75 at the door).

“We felt that the event was a tremendous success last year,” said Christina Dick, one of the event’s organizers. “Our goal was to raise $10,000 and we raised over $40,000.”

Returning as this year’s emcee is Style Weekly’s Editor in Chief, Jason Roop.

“This is a fast-moving, high-energy event,” Roop said. “It isn’t stuffy and it isn’t crass. I’d say each single is onstage for no more than five minutes, so it’s a blur of good looks, charming personalities, and creative date packages. These are singles who are self-confident enough to get onstage, but humble enough to have fun with the absurdity of it all.”

There will be 13 men and 11 women on the auction block on Saturday evening.1 One of the bachelors is Ace Callwood, who’s worked with local startup CycleStay and co-created Coffitivity. He said he’s most looking forward to the auction itself.

“I think the bidding process is going to be pretty interesting, and I’m excited to see who’s out and who I’m going to end up on a date with,” he said.

Karri Peifer, Editor of Richmond.com, will be one of the auctioned bachelorettes. She’s most looking forward to “the knock of the gavel, the word ‘Sold!’ and what I’m imaging will be a much-needed drink.”

Although she’s nervous about her potential date, she’s excited about the evening’s potential. “It’s all going to be great fun, and for a great cause,” she said. “It’ll be a blast…”

Single in the City takes place on Saturday, May 18th beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door). VIP admission is $60 in advance ($75 at the door).
