Richmond Triangle Players presents “Body Awareness” beginning April 20th

The theatre describes the show as a provocative play with an important message about body image.

From Richmond Triangle Players:

In Baker’s eye-opening comedy, it’s Body Awareness Week at Vermont’s Shirley College, and partners Phyllis (Sara Heifetz) and Joyce (Melissa Johnston Price), and their possibly autistic son Jared (Chandler Hubbard), are rocked by a visiting photographer (Daniel Moore) and his probing ‘male gaze.’ As sexuality, identity, role modeling and political-correctness get stirred up, the results are both touching and hilarious.

Annie Baker is a prolific American playwright and teacher who won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for her play The Flick, which was recently produced by Cadence Theatre Company in a site-specific production at The Byrd.

Among her other works are the Shirley, Vermont plays, which take place in the fictional town of Shirley: Circle Mirror Transformation (produced by Virginia Repertory Theatre in 2011), Body Awareness, and The Aliens (produced last year at Firehouse Theatre). Her works are among the most frequently produced in the country.

Begins April 20! Low-Priced Preview Weds, April 20; Opens Thursday, April 21. Runs Thurs-Sat Eves through May 14 at 8 pm; Sunday matinees at 4 pm on May 1 & 8!

In support of this production, nationally renowned and awarded Hayes & Fisk Photography is sponsoring this production as well as lending their unique talents and discerning eye to produce a special set of gorgeous, seductive portraits of Richmond area actors and residents.

Richmond Camera has generously agreed to print the sumptuous images.

Viewing these portraits will connect you with the essence of the play: at what point does the affirmation and celebration of the human nude cross the line to exploitation? You may or may not recognize the humans behind the photographs, but you will be inspired to hold your own conversations about how you feel about nudes, and perhaps your own nudity and body awareness.

The portraits will be on display during the production at Richmond Triangle Players as well as at a special exhibit held at Club Infuzion located at 1401 Roseneath Road in Scott’s Addition on April 14, 2016.
