Return to Nuke ‘Em High at the Byrd

This might be the exact opposite of the Lego Movie that just played.

Richmond and the Byrd Theater have been selected for an incredible honor. They are the start of the Return to Nuke ‘Em High limited release theater tour. Class Of Nuke ‘Em High (1986) was a sensitive slow paced look at a group of coming of age teens. If you believe that I’ve got some 2015 Shockoe Baseball Season Tickets I’d like to sell you.

From the review site Rotten Tomatoes we get this description of Class of Nuke ‘Em High.

Trash-movie moguls Lloyd Kauffman and Michael Herz — the creative team (so to speak) behind distributor Troma Films and makers of The Toxic Avenger — foist yet another epic of bad taste upon the viewing public with this melding of teenage sex-comedy and slime-oozing monster mayhem, described by the filmmakers as “like The Breakfast Club, only not as stupid, and really, really drunk.”

Expect more of the same with Return to Nuke ‘Em High. Description once again from Rotten Tomatoes.

Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Vol. 1 & 2, directed by Lloyd Kaufman, is a hilarious, thoughtful sci-fi “Event Film” with themes ripped straight from today’s headlines: the contamination and degradation of the world’s food supply, rampant bullying, and LGBTQ love triumphing over prejudice and violence. The film, a revisiting of Troma’s 1986 Class of Nuke ‘Em High is in the same vein as other classics such as Class of 1984, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, and Carrie, but seen through the unique vision of Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Team.

Return to Nuke ‘Em High splashes onto the Byrd screen on Saturday, May 31st, at 1:00 PM and will feature a Q&A With Director Lloyd Kaufman after the film.

There will also be an after-party at The New York Deli at 10 pm in which Mr Kaufman and some of the stars will be attending. It’s rumored “Toxie” will be putting in an appearance as well.
