Quirk Gallery hosting Bill Fisher and his Catholic Boy works
A reflection of the artist’s time growing up in parochial school.
On Thursday, January 14th, 5-8 PM the Quirk Gallery (207 W. Broad) is hosting an Artist Reception to celebrate new works on paper by Bill Fisher in the new Main Gallery exhibit.
Fisher moves away from his known abstractions to the anecdotal depiction in this exhibit, reflecting on his time growing up in parochial school. All works are oil and cold wax on paper measuring 40 x 26”. The exhibit runs Thursday, January 7 to Sunday, February 21.
“These works on paper are a departure from my abstract paintings. At the encouragement of my son, I thought that I would try my hand at something more narrative and autobiographical. This new body of work is based on my childhood memories of catholic school. My interactions with priests, nuns, and the iconography of a parochial education provided me with a wealth of subject matter. This work is based on my personal experience and is in no way a pejorative statement on Catholicism.”
