New Scott’s Addition mural paints picture of neighborhood’s past, present

The Preserve at Scott’s Addition commissioned the piece, which adorns the apartment building’s façade.

A new mural affixed to the side of a large new apartment complex in Scott’s Addition gives a nod to the neighborhood’s rich industrial past while bridging it to the present day.

Ross Trimmer of Sure Hand Signs and local artist Mike Broth were commissioned by The Preserve at Scott’s Addition to paint the large mural, which was painted on a large canvas affixed to the side of the building. The space was once a Coca-Cola bottling plant.

The mural pays homage to a number of landmarks within Scott’s Addition including the bottling plant and Interbake Foods–a former cookie manufacturer and producer of Girl Scout Cookies (now Cookie Factory Lofts). An industrial worker at the top is inspired by Trimmer and Broth’s mutual friend Michael Ramey, who passed away recently.

Towards the bottom, the neighborhood’s renaissance is celebrated, with bicyclists, pedestrians walking a dog, a glass of beer from Ardent Craft Ales, and a depiction of Studio Two Three, an art studio which Trimmer works out of.
