‘Music Unites’ benefit concert to be held in support of United Way May 20th

The concert, free for kids and $10 for adults, will expose audiences to a wide variety of classical music and a well-known performer.

The Symphony Musicians of Richmond (SMOR) are organizing an event to unite Richmonders through music. The group is putting on their second annual benefit concert called ‘Music Unites’ for United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg.

SMOR is a group of professional musicians who are dedicated to bringing orchestral music to the greater Richmond area. They volunteer their time through their community service concerts to give back to the community and bring classical music experiences to people of all ages and backgrounds.

World-renowned maestro James Ross has agreed to lead the ‘Music Unites’ performance. Maestro Ross is the conductor of the University of Maryland’s Symphony Orchestra and Associate Director of the Conducting Program at the Juilliard School.

SMOR and Maestro Ross will guide attendees through Dvorak’s popular New World Symphony and tell of how Dvorak inspired American composers to look to their own musical roots to create a uniquely American style of music. Best known for his choreographed performances of Afternoon of the Fawn and Appalachian Spring at the University of Maryland, Maestro Ross will bring his expertise to craft an approachable and artistically rewarding experience.

The evening promises to be a laid back, fun, and casual concert for those of all ages. The event will take place Wednesday, May 20th at 7:00 PM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, located at 4491 Springfield Road. Space is limited and an online RSVP is required.

Kids up to 18 are free and the cost for adults is $10.
