Brian Gearing and Sam Verrill, citing a shared interest in art, came together to create an event that seems almost tailored to Richmond.

“Richmond seems like a perfect fit for an event like this,” Gearing said. “With all the artists, designers and marketing agencies, I think that there are a lot of people who would appreciate it.”

Verrill has organized similar benefit print shows with different themes over the years in Philadelphia. “Screens N Spokes” and “Beans N Screens” are two of the events Verrill said have generated proceeds to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Part of the proceeds will also be donated to Young Audiences of Virginia, a non-profit organization working to keep music and art programs in public schools.

foster_melvins_print“As a former teacher and someone who appreciates art, and sees that part of education getting less and less attention, I just think it’s a great organization and I would like to see them succeed,” said Gearing.

Together, Gearing and Verrill came up with the concept of this event and built off of Verrill’s previous efforts.

“Brian knew the background of ‘Screens N Spokes’ and what we were doing with it and I think he sort of wanted to run with that too,” Verrill said. “I have been working with the MS Society for the past 4 years, so I think [Brian] saw that it could be effective in promoting a show – showing that it was going to a good cause and trying to make a little bit of a difference as much as you can.”

Attendees can expect to see the poster show where all the artists will be set up with their booths. Live music from Gull, Illbrain, and DJ Lightning’s Girl will provide the event’s soundtrack.

gaslight_tour_v1Not only will selected concert poster artists be present with their work, a print series inspired by craft brews will also be available.

Gift certificates from Plan9, Mekong Restaurant, and Frame Warehouse will be raffled off, along with some framed prints.

“One of them is an art print called ‘I Walk the Pines,’ and it’s a silhouette of Johnny Cash by an artist called Punchgut Studio,” Gearing said. “I also have a poster that’s framed and signed by Warren Haynes that will be part of the raffle.”

Gearing said beer tastings from Star Hill Brewery will be available as well as specials for St. George, Legend, and Blue and Grey breweries.

  1. Emily and I are looking forward to seeing the show!!

btw, a gift certificate to Frame Nation will be offered that night too.

  2. Having multiple sclerosis myself, I’d just like to say a sincere “Thank You!” to the organizers for putting on such a benefit, as well as a “Thank You” in advance to everyone who attends.

Art, beer and helping out two very worthy causes at the same time. What more could you ask for? :)
