Dimmer Twins Live at Ipanema

For Jon and Kevin this way of performing has taken on a revivalist feel of its own, sometimes spiritual, sometimes devilish, but always a party.

From the Press Release

The Dimmer Twins play a free show as the next installment of Live at Ipanema on Sunday, March 2, 2014. Starts at 10PM, get there early.

The Dimmer Twins are Jon Brown and Kevin Wade Inge when they play without the rest of Horsehead… or breakdown on the side of I85. Two of the four pieces that make up the Richmond-based rock-and-roll band Horsehead, singer/songwriter Jon Brown and guitarist Kevin Inge wanted a way to tour in situations where the full, loud Horsehead was not feasible…enter The Dimmer Twins.

Jon and Kevin took their existing Horsehead catalogue and rearranged the songs for a more intimate and immediate setting. Mainly performing with just two acoustic guitars and hints of pedal steel, the duo brings you inside the circled wagons to experience rather than only watch. The music is both deeply grounded in history and wondrously performed; it’s hard to listen without tapping your foot or clapping along. For Jon and Kevin this way of performing has taken on a revivalist feel of its own, sometimes spiritual, sometimes devilish, but always a party.

Show-goers are treated to things they don’t normally get to hear when seeing a band at full stage volume. The show swings like a pendulum from hushed moments of a single guitar and voice to a loud, foot-stompin’, hollerin’, screamin’, testifyin’, rock and roll show.

Ultimately, the goal of these performances is to highlight the stories within and behind the songs that can sometimes be lost behing the loud hum of amplifiers and the crack of the drums. Leave your cares aside and be prepared to be singing along by the end of the night.

Live at Ipanema is a free live performance series at Ipanema Cafe. The shows by local and regional artists are recorded by Allen Bergendahland photographed by PJ Sykes, and then shared online. The band gets a high-quality recording and professional photography, and everyone else gets a great evening of music.
