‘Byrd and a Beer’ midnight movie series continues with ‘Major League’

The popular midnight movie series and charity benefit continues on June 19th; tickets always go fast.

Update #1 — June 10, 2015; 11:20 AM

The previously scheduled movie showing has been cancelled due to the loss of the Byrd Theatre Foundation’s digital projection system. Management hopes to reschedule the event for a later date once a new projection system is installed.

From The Byrd Theatre Foundation:

Long before Charlie Sheen was #winning with #tigerblood he was just a young “wild thing” pitcher whose fastball was “just a bit outside”. But, thanks to the guidance of a veteran, quick witted catcher, the worst haircut ever given to a white dude plus one leather vest, he became a #winning legend that we know and love today.

For months now, Richmonders have enjoyed sweet Friday midnight showings of such cult classics as “The Goonies”, “Pulp Fiction” and “Fight Club” all the while sipping on cold craft beers from Center of the Universe Brewing Company at the historic Byrd Theatre. Even better, they have been supporting the charitable efforts of the Byrd Theatre Foundation while doing so.

June’s third friday, the Byrd Theatre Foundation’s Byrd and a Beer series will screen “Major League”, and this month net proceeds from the cult classic and craft beer go to a different cause –– the Flying Squirrels Charities. Moviegoers age 21 & up are invited to join us on Friday, June 19, to relax with a cold brew and enjoy this timeless sports standard.

Pre-purchased tickets are $5 and available online. Previous BAAB nights SOLD OUT so attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-buy their tickets online. A LIMITED number of tickets will be sold at the box office before the show and are $7. All ticket, beer and concession sales are cash only. There is an ATM located in the Theatre’s lobby.

The box office will open at 11:30 p.m. Doors open promptly after the previous showing’s release, with the movie starting at midnight. Byrd and a Beer is 21 and up only. Proper ID required for admittance.

This month’s Byrd and a Beer is part of a three-day “Take me out to the Byrd” event. The weekend of June 19 – 21 will feature different fundraiser each day to support Squirrels Charities “Operation Renovation” initiative, helping renovate and redevelop little league 12 baseball fields across the City of Richmond. Stay tuned for more information about this weekend and how you can help.

Remember! This is 21+, so purchased beverages may be carried into the theatre. You don’t have to sneak them in. You cannot bring your own beer.

While tickets are a charitable contribution, we estimate the price equal to its fair market value. For federal income tax purposes, this nets zero and would not be considered tax deductible.

Byrd and a Beer is co-sponsored by XL102 and Center of the Universe Brewing Company.

These movies always sell out, so be sure to purchase tickets ($5 each) online as soon as possible if you plan on attending.
