Altria Theater hosts Downton Abbey Season 5 premiere

Dress up and get down for a sneak peek inside the Crawley family estate.

The Community Idea Stations will host a free screening of Downton Abbey‘s fifth season premiere at the Altria Theater on Friday, January 2nd at 8:00 PM, two days before the television premiere.

The Altria Theater free screening will preview just the first 60 minutes of the 120-minute Season 5 premiere.

In previous years, Richmond’s local PBS affiliate hosted season premieres at the 1,400-seat Byrd Theatre. Organizers believe the expanded capacity of the Altria Theater (3,600 seats) will double attendance over previous years.

“We’re excited to bring this year’s celebration to this stunning new and flexible space,” said Katherine Godin of Community Idea Stations. “Each year, we have hosted this event, the community response and attendance has continued to grow. We are expecting this year’s preview to be one of the best ever.”

New this year will be a 1920s jazz-style reception (5:30 – 7:30 PM) before the screening featuring themed beverages, English fare, and music. Tickets are $50 and available online.

As in previous years, attendees are encouraged to dress up in attire inspired by the show, which takes place in post-Edwardian era England.

The television premiere of Downton Abbey Season 5 airs on Sunday, January 4th at 9:00 PM on WCVE.
