5 Things to Watch
Five films worth streaming on Netflix and one pretty good Tom Cruise movie in theaters now!
Don’t give me that look. Despite whatever you’re thinking, the new Tom Cruise flick is pretty good. Look at that picture! How could it not be good!
In theaters: Edge of Tomorrow
Tom Cruise stars in this clever sequel to Groundhog Day–just kidding, kind of!
Edge of Tomorrow is the next film in a long and continuing line of Tom Cruise action/scifi films, and it does totally feature him waking up to relive the same day over and over and over again. Only instead of Punxsutawney Phil and small-town America, you get aliens, mechanical exoskeleton supersuits, and lots of explosions. But other than that, the two films are super similar, with both protagonists honing their skills, saving lives, learning the true meaning of Christmas, and falling in love. Only Edge of Tomorrow takes the moral high ground by not breaking the time loop with sex. ★★★★★★
- Why you should see this movie: Because, at the end of the day, Tom Cruise is an enjoyable guy to watch in a movie.
- Why you shouldn’t: You already filled your mecahnical exoskeleton quota with that Matt Damon film.
- Bechdel Test: The female lead is pretty badass (Emily Blunt1), but she’s the only woman in the movie. Plus, despite being clearly superior to Cruise’s character in just about every single way, he, of course, ends up saving the day. These are the things you’ve got to accept heading into a Tom Cruise Movie.

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
A classic Spaghetti Western epic that’s beautiful, long, and sometimes lacks action. But don’t let that scare you off! It’s an incredible experience. ★★★★★★
Major League (1989)
★★★★★★
What about Bob (1991)
I’M SAILING! ★★★★★
Wayne’s World (1992)
Confession: I’ve never seen Wayne’s World; I just never got around to it. Then, after a decade, it became a thing: “Oh, I’ve never seen Wayne’s World,” I said with pride. I know, I know, I’m the worst.
Orange is the New Black: Season 2 (2014)
I’m sure you’ve already bingewatched OitNB season 2–it did drop on Netflix a full seven days ago. If not, I highly recommend it. And don’t let me hear you skeptically ask, “a show about a women’s prison…?” It’s about the characters! ★★★★★
