New tool available for finding affordable housing

Virginia Supportive Housing and Bon Secours Richmond Health System have joined forces to create findhousingVA.org and its IRL companion project Housing Resources Center, both meant to serve low-to-moderate income individuals and families looking for affordable housing in the Richmond area.

The website can be used by potential renters, landlords, and agencies. Renters can currently browse a listing of almost 500 units, all at or below rent limits as set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. However, accessible and special needs units do not need to meet rent limits to be listed in the website. Meanwhile, landlords can use the site to upload detailed information about available properties.

The Housing Resources Center offers call-in support for these individuals, helping them create what they’re calling a “Permanent Housing Plan” that identifies potential housing barriers (such as low credit scores, criminal record, poor renting history, etc.) and connects them to landlords with available properties around town.
