Even though it’s all the way out in Goochland, Edible Garden has become a favorite of Richmonders looking to support local farmers and enjoy local food.

Unfortunately, Edible Garden will be closing its doors for good this Saturday, November 7th.

From their website:

Five years ago, Edible Garden started with a mission to bring an awareness to the community about the importance and pleasure of supporting local food. With a handful of farmers, Edible Garden began serving meals to curious customers, who willing accepted our ever changing menu based on what was in season and available within 100 miles of our small restaurant in Goochland County.

Today, Edible Garden is no longer the only local restaurant in the Richmond area. The Richmond community proudly supports local Farmers Markets in almost every neighborhood. Book clubs have all read Barbara Kingsolver’s book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Michael Pollan has been a popular guest at the Richmond Forum. We have confidence that support for local food is here to stay. Edible Garden finds it gratifying that so many chefs around town are now buying from local farmers and crediting their fabulous ingredients on their menus.

It is with regret that Edible Garden announces to our loyal supporters our closing November 7, 2009. We want to thank our faithful customers, dedicated producers and committed staff, who made this venture possible and so rewarding. It has been such an amazing experience for both owners, who without any previous experience in the restaurant business, have come to know intimately every aspect of the role of entrepreneur.

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, think about heading down River Road and giving them a proper send off.
