“Artsies” nominations out

The Richmond Theatre Critics Circle has announced nominations for the Third Annual RTCC "Artsies" Awards for the 2009-2010 season. They've also jazzed things up a bit this year with the addition of some new categories and additional critics. The ceremony (a black-tie gala, in fact) will take place on October 17 at the Empire Theatre and will feature performances from productions nominated for Best Musical.

“We are really excited about this year’s awards,” said Mary Burruss, an RTCC co-founder. “A classic Richmond venue, star power on and off the stage, and an expanded number of critics from different media, such as blogs, should help us build on the tremendous success of the past two years’ events and make this one the best yet.”

The ceremony is open to the public. Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased from the Theatre IV box office by calling 282-2620. Proceeds go to support the Richmond Theatre Artists Fund, a fund established by the Richmond Alliance of Professional Theatres to help those in the Richmond theatre community who fall on hard of times due to illness, injury, or extenuating circumstances.
