RVAJazz 2009 Year in Review: May

An album review, a venue feature, and a look back at a Glowing Realm 10 Questions piece led up to the Matana Roberts show at the end of the month, of which we snapped some photos. That afternoon, UseTheVastness and Yellow Grass played a gig in the small space of Black Hand Coffee, eliciting the response, “You’re going to play where?” It wouldn’t be the last of afternoon music shows at the coffee shop. Reggie Pace and Larri Branch announced the second summer of the Thompson & Grace Balcony Concert Series. Cous Cous regulars Fight the Big Bull and Ombak took their regular summer hiatuses from the gigs. It would be FTBB’s last summer vacation from the bar. Cliff hanger until the October edition!
