Folk Festival: The quick’n’dirty

It's here, the Richmond Folk Festival starts today! While our Folk Festival Guide has absolutely everything you need to know about making the most of this weekend, here's a bare-bones breakdown of what to expect.

When & Where

The Folk Festival runs today through Sunday, October 10 down at Brown's Island, right by the Civil War Center. Hours are as follows: Friday, 6pm to 10:30pm; Saturday, noon to 10:30pm; Sunday, noon to 6pm. Get your bearings and plan your visit with the festival map and schedule.

Parking

Downtown Richmond is known as a pain in the butt when it comes to parking, but don't fear. There are plenty of lots and shuttles to choose from. There are also a few honor lots close by, and you can always try for street parking. Bring cash.

Do's and Don'ts

No pets allowed (unless they are service animals). No coolers allowed either.

Food

There will be 30 delicous vendors run by local favorites such as Strawberry Street Cafe and Sine' Irish Pub.

Kids

The Genworth Family Area (located next to the MARTIN'S/Union First Market Stage near 2nd Street) will have kids games, the beloved C-MOR paper bag hats, puppets and more. Activities for the kids are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, starting at around noon each day.

Cost

The Folk Festival is free of charge. To help keep it that way, be sure to pass along a little cash to the "bucket brigade," the troop of volunteers who roam around the festival with giant orange buckets to collect donations. If you don't want to carry cash, you can always donate online using PayPal.

Weather

Weather Dan is calling for clear skies and warm temperatures all weekend. Expect highs in the low to mid 80's and be sure to wear sunscreen!
