VCU men’s soccer team advance to semi-final after upsetting top seed
Rams in the semifinals of Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Most of the local sporting population is all wrapped up in the start of basketball season but another roundball season is coming to a close in dramatic fashion for a local team.
The VCU men’s soccer team opened up their A-10 Tourney against top ranked George Washington. Despite a mediocre (6-9-4) season and only one win on the road the Rams came together to deliver a world of hurt on George Washington.
- Herranz’s two goals pushed him into the team lead with five on the season.
- Sixteen of VCU’s 22 goals have come from players who had not scored a collegiate goal for the Rams prior to the start of the season.
- “It was a solid team performance today to open the tournament. I think there are a lot of areas for us to continue to improve in for us to be at our best, but obviously we are pleased to have a chance to learn while we advance.” – Head Coach Dave Giffard
Next up is fourth-seeded Fordham today at 5 PM in the semifinals at George Mason Stadium. The game will be available on the Atlantic 10 Network.
On the other side of the gender pitch the women’s team didn’t fare as well and ran into a stingy Fordham and lost 1-0.
