Sign up now to be dragon boating in August

The Walgreens Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival is August 2nd, so get your registration in order.

Let’s face it the Dragon Boat Festival at Rocketts Landing is cool. Big festive boats, giant drums, yelling at people to row harder, and it’s truly unique. You can’t throw a craft beer 10 feet in this town without hitting a music festival but dragon boats only hit the James once a year.

If you want to be an active part of the festival, as in on the water, rowing like a galley slave, it’s easy. You need to find up to 23 other folks that share your desire and then you register your team. There is also the matter of the entry fee which ranges from $1,095 to $1,595 per team but you can sell it under team building to  your boss and get your co-workers on board.

The Rocketts Landing blog has some numbers to show how popular this event has become.

Last year, 30 dragon boat teams (with nearly 800 rowers!) descended on Rocketts Landing to challenge each other in numerous heats. Add a beautiful riverfront setting, 1500 spectators, a cultural festival and a killer after party, and there’s no wonder this is one of our most popular events. But don’t just take our word for it — Movoto even named the Dragon Boat Festival one of the top 25 reasons people should move to Richmond!

For me it all comes back to it’s a boat that looks like a dragon and that is awesome.
